Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras 2

Created by Richard Thomas

Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras 2 starts out presenting a chapter for each of six historical eras; each of which features two Chronicles of Darkness game lines which include Vampire: The Requiem, Mage: The Awakening, Hunter: The Vigil, Changeling: The Lost, and more! The rules in this book are compatible with second edition Chronicles of Darkness. Each terrifying time period and location is examined through the supernatural creatures that dwell there.

February Dark Eras 2 Update
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 27, 2020 at 04:07:19 PM

Hello DE2 Backers!

Richt here:

The errata that you folks sent us was reviewed and notated and is with the graphic designer for input. Those changes go into the PDF file so we can create the final PDF, and from those files we build both the physical book PoD files to go with the PDF on DTRPG, and also the traditional printing files, which will be sent out to you as rewards after they are printed and shipped to the fulfillment company and packed up.

As we get closer, you can watch the progress with these monthly Updates, or weekly on my Monday Meeting Notes blog on our Onyx Path website. When we get really close to shipping, in a few months after all the manufacturing is finished, you'll get notifications of us shutting down the BackerKit site in stages.

Meanwhile:

We're down to the last week of the Hunter: The Vigil 2e Kickstarter campaign, and heading towards 400% funding and lots of Stretch Goals already achieved! Folks seem really excited about how HtV has been brought into 2nd Edition Chronicles of Darkness, so c'mon and check it out if you haven't already!

January Dark Eras 2 Update!
about 4 years ago – Fri, Jan 31, 2020 at 10:11:48 PM

Dear DE2 Backers:

RichT here:

This'll be a pretty quick one, as the team is starting to pull in and review the errata many of you have sent us. Thanks to all of you that have done that - it's really helpful!

For those of you that are Hunter: The Vigil fans, the Kickstarter to create the 2nd Edition version and get it into stores starts Thursday, Feb 6th at 2pm EST. This will be on our Onyx Path Kickstarter account, like Mummy 2e was on, rather than the RichT account like this KS.

Backers will receive sections of the text as the KS progresses and will have 99% by the time the KS is over. Let our Vigil begin together on Thursday!

DE2 Backer PDF link messages sent out!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Jan 14, 2020 at 09:56:48 PM

Dear DE2 Backers:

RichT here - yes the long-awaited day is here! I've just sent out the link messages via BackerKit for the backer PDFs of Dark Eras 2

Please note that those messages are coming via BackerKit and not Kickstarter. Also, if you think you should have received a link message, but didn't, please first check to be sure the Reward Tier you pledged to contains a DE2 PDF. Then, please check your message threads from BackerKit, and your spam folders before messaging me, but if you do have problems, we'll figure it out.

The links can also be found in the Digital Downloads section of your BackerKit page.

Likewise,  if you get your link(s) but for some reason the download isn't working, please contact DTRPG customer service before contacting me as I have no ability to engage on that aspect of getting you your reward(s). Either way, we will figure out any problems so you get your files. No worries!

As I mentioned in the message with the link, we encourage all backers to go to an errata form, here: https://forms.gle/ASAWNb7M2A5RdJvp7

We'll be gathering up comments for the Devs for at least two  weeks, and then after that they'll need to go through the lists and make  any changes. Any tweaks we make to the PDF will be automatically updated  and show up in your DTRPG library. All you'll  need to do is re-download the PDF. This includes things like pg XXs, bookmarks, interactivity for the character sheet, etc. that we can't do completely until we're sure that things like the page locations won't change with the errata.

Once we get all the DE2 errata into the book, we'll get the files together so that we can send both books to press.

Thanks again for your patience as we worked really hard to make this an amazing DE2 Backer PDF!

New Year, Good News!

Hello DE2 backers!

RichT here:

Just a brief note to let you all know that we are expecting to get the approval for the Dark Eras 2 Backer PDF from White Wolf/Paradox this week. So expect to receive the links next week, along with a link to an errata form for any of you who want to use it - we'd certainly appreciate it!

Thanks for your patience and support!

November Dark Eras 2 Update!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Nov 26, 2019 at 06:40:56 PM

Hello, DE2 Backers!

RichT here:

Dark Eras 2 is just about done in layout proofing (where  the developers review the laid-out pages for slips or layout weirdness) and now we're wrapping up all the layout issues and getting the cover put together. Once we have the Backer PDF ready for you, I'll be sending backers links and links for an errata sheet for any of you who want to send us your catches.  While that is happening, here's a snippet from the book and related art by Brian LeBlanc courtesy of lead developer Monica Valentinelli:

Light of the Sun

1630-1640 CE

“But that which will excite the greatest astonishment by far, and which indeed especially moved me to call the attention of all astronomers and philosophers, is this: namely, that I have observed four planets, neither known nor observed by any one of the astronomers before my time, which have their orbits round a certain bright star, one of those previously known, like Venus or Mercury round the sun, and are sometimes in front of it, sometimes behind it, though they never depart from it beyond certain limits. All of which facts were discovered and observed a few days ago by the help of a telescope devised by me, through God’s grace first enlightening my mind.”

— Galileo Galilei, “The Sidereal Messenger” Pamphlet, 1610

Europe is in turmoil. The Holy Roman Empire and its enemies lurch through the relentless carnage of the Thirty Years’ War. Millions die to fire and sword and pox and hunger. Rising powers and crumbling lineages choke and throttle one another over entanglements of authority and faith. Christianity, sundered between Catholic and Protestant, turns on itself like a rabid animal; divisions fuel frenzied feuds and are used to justify new ambitions.

In the shadow of the Holy Roman Empire, Italy’s growth slumps, its myriad of squabbling dominions eclipsed by greater powers. Plague scours the land, its rancid grasp leaving so deep a suppurating wound in society that even decades later there will still be deserted homes and desolate farmsteads. After the scintillating brilliance of the Italian Renaissance, the peninsula now seems tarnished.

This is not simply a decline, though, not a dark age stark against prior light. This, too, is a time of illumination, where the grandeur of the Renaissance is set aside in favor of sharper tools of rationality and inquisition. Flourishing science brings inconvenient truths to bear against the foundations of power; men and women of influence and intelligence must balance the rival demands of veracity, piety, and loyalty.

Some, like Galileo Galilei, are unable to maintain such a balancing act.

And Currently On Kickstarter:

We're coming down to the last week and would love your help to pass even more Stretch Goals!

Please check out this 2nd Edition of Mummy: The Curse here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/339646881/mummy-the-curse-2nd-edition

(Please note that the Mummy Kickstarter is on our new Onyx Path Kickstarter page, so you probably have not been getting any of the automatic KS notices from KSs on our first KS page. It's us though, never fear!)
